To celebrate the announcement of The Dixie Dean Hotel, an exciting development that will sit opposite the immensely popular Shankly Hotel on Victoria Street, Signature Living has revealed our plans to erect a statue of the two great men in the world?s first ever ?Football Quarter.?
The statue will depict Dixie Dean, a former centre forward and legend of Everton, and Bill Shankly, hero of Liverpool Football Club, arm in arm as a testament to the friendship that blossomed following their respective retirement from the beautiful game.
The new statue will be the newest tribute to the men who changed Merseyside football forever.
Dixie Dean stands tall and proud outside his home stadium of Goodison Park after a statue was revealed in 2001, showing the record goal scorer in his prime.
Meanwhile, Bill Shankly had a tribute to his life and career erected outside Anfield Stadium in 1997. Not only does Bill have a statue outside his club dedicated to his memory, he also has an entire hotel that serves as a museum ? and soon Dixie Dean will have the same.
Despite having allegiances to Merseyside?s fiercest rivals, the pair struck up an unlikely friendship, following the pair?s retirement from football, the bond continued and Bill Shankly was even with Dixie on the day of his death in 1980.
Speaking of his footballing brother, Bill Shankly said: ?Dixie was the greatest centre-forward there will ever be. His record of goalscoring is the most amazing thing under the sun. He belongs in the company of the supremely great, like Beethoven, Shakespeare and Rembrandt.?
Despite being a Liverpool Football club legend, Bill Shankly had an Everton season ticket for the 1966/67 season.
The Dixie Dean hotel was announced earlier this year and will follow the same footprint as the wildly successful Shankly Hotel, incorporating the life and times of the famous Everton goal scorer.
The Liverpool hotels will stand just minutes walk from each other and will stand as brothers in arms ? much like the dynamic duo themselves.
Located in the magnificent and historic Jerome and Carlisle Buildings, a historic structure in Liverpool that has been allowed to fall into disrepair. Signature Living has extensive knowledge of transforming heritage buildings into things of beauty, and The Dixie Dean Hotel will be no different. The hotel will feature unique rooms, Dixie Dean memorabilia and a bar & restaurant, as well as being a stunning wedding and events venue.
Now, football fans can choose to stay in either a blue or a red hotel, enjoying the most luxurious football themed hotel in the world without having to sacrifice their team?s colours.
With The Shankly Hotel being the premier destination for football fans not only in Liverpool but in the world, Signature Living announced the plans to develop a new quarter in the city ? the Football Quarter.
Bringing all of Liverpool?s rich football history and proud fans together in one beautiful part of the city.
